How Things Work
I did a piece for the NYT Sunday Review this week – a complicated diagram, with some cutaways, which I don't think I've ever really tried before. The article, by Heather Sellers, is a daughter's remembrance of her complicated relationship with a schizophrenic mother and her obsession with a book series called How Things Work (which I will now be on the lookout for myself – it looks amazing). It's a great little piece, left nicely unresolved. Here's the final along with a few sketches. Thanks to Alexandra Zsigmond for art directing.
